Micro Inertial Measurement Unit

Inertial measurement unit (IMU) is an ultra-compact system for measuring the object's angular speed and linear acceleration (both parameters are measured along all three axes). IMU can be used, both autonomously and as a part of an integrated system, for solving orientation and navigation tasks.

Inertial measurement unit (IMU) has been designed for measurement the object's angular rate and linear acceleration (both parameters are measured along three orthogonal axes). IMU is based on MEMS (Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems) inertial sensors, which are relatively low-cost, small-sized, and able to function in heavy shock and vibration conditions, with severe electromagnetic interference and temperature gradient.

On a scope of railway transportation IMU is an ultra-compact system, it can be mounted on all but any part of the vehicle. IMU can be used both autonomously and as a part of an integrated system. Actually a set of IMUs is used for rail surface irregularities detection in the integrated system for railway track diagnostics RailwayTrack. Moreover it can be used for testing of running behavior of railway vehicles in accordance with the standard EN 14363 and for other applications.

IMU is based on MEMS (Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems) inertial sensors, which are relatively low-cost, small-sized, and able to function in heavy shock and vibration conditions, with severe electromagnetic interference and temperature gradient. IMU features MEMS gyros and accelerometers, a ADC, data processor and a temperature sensor.
